Peace

To those who couldn’t see it seven years ago, it should be obvious by now that the invasions and occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan are wars of aggression. The wars were justified by allegations that have long since proven to be false. Further, it is clear that those who made the allegations knew them to be false at the time they made them.

Consequently, these wars constitute war crimes as defined by the Nuremburg Tribunal and the International Criminal Court; as do the remote control bombings/assassinations of supposed terrorists in Pakistan and Yemen. In addition, the imprisonment and torture of Muslims guilty of nothing more than defending their homes from foreign invaders are crimes that should elicit nothing but revulsion from all who cherish peace and justice.

These crimes necessitate the arrest and prosecution of members of both the current and previous Presidential administrations for perpetrating crimes against humanity.

Further, the ongoing move to demonize Iran and deny it the rights guaranteed to it by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty appears to be nothing more than a baseless, propagandist prelude to yet another war of aggression against that nation. This will add to the criminal counts against the current administration.

That said, the Libertarian Party bears a share of the moral responsibility, though fortunately not culpability for these criminal acts. The complicity of silence by the Libertarian Party since 2001 is a stain upon its reputation that we must work to absolve ourselves from here forward. Nothing short of vigorous, rigorous, and vociferous opposition to America’s wars of empire is acceptable to the Libertarian Party or anyone who purports to hold Libertarian views. Indeed, few things could more thoroughly discredit anyone’s claim to support liberty than their support of the American Warfare State. Opposition to it is a moral imperative.

This presents us with a unique opportunity, as advocating peace places us in an advantageous political situation. As more and more Americans awaken to the nature of the Warfare State and rise in opposition, many will come to see that the LP shares their view. They will realize that only the LP represents peace, while the other two parties seek perpetual war and conquest. This situation can only enhance our political standing and benefit our candidates who trumpet their opposition to America’s war crimes.

In short, to those for whom morality and justice aren’t good enough arguments, consider this;

America already has two War Parties.

It doesn’t need a third one.

America needs a Peace Party because only peace breeds liberty and prosperity.
